I must say, the return of the sun this week came just in the nick of time. The cold, rainy, gray weather we had last week was really getting to me. And it's not even winter yet!
I do not remember the weather effecting me much when I was younger. But over the last several years I have really noticed it. More and more so each year.
Last year my doctor diagnosed me with Seasonal Affective Disorder, commonly known as SAD. As the sun begins to rise later and set earlier, SAD begins its descent onto me. At first it isn't so bad. I love the cool, crisp Fall weather - at least as long as the sun is shining. It's the prolonged stretches of dismal gray that really get me down. Stretches like we had last week....
Just as I was starting to question whether the sun would ever shine again, it returned in full form on Sunday. (Wasn't that appropriate? SUNday!) The prodigal sun returned and my mood immediately began to lift. The nagging, low-grade headache? Gone! The slight touch of malaise and irritability? Gone!
Yes, I really do feel better in the shimmer of the sun.
So it was with great gratitude that I have enjoyed the last few days of blissful sunshine. My outing to Keeneland on Sunday was enhanced by the sunshine. The drive back to Louisville on Monday was much more enjoyable in the company of the sun. Today I had the pleasure of relaxing on the back porch with my grandmother while Riley and Buddy played in the yard. Ahhhhhh, Heaven!
If only I could capture the sun's healing properties and save it for a winter day....
The forecast for tomorrow promises one more day of sunshine. I intend to wallow in the sun's rays and absorb as much as I possibly can. After all, it's not every day prescription-free Prozac falls from the sky!
It was nice to have the sun out, it made my drive to IUS much more enjoyable! I was just thinking today how much I am not looking forward to winter.
