Friday I took my grandmother back to Joann's Fabric and Craft Store, the scene of Thursday's Crochet 101 class. We were on our way back to Richmond, so in the interest of time we divided to shop and conquer.
Out of habit, I first swung through the fabric section - and never made it out. I first found three lovely fleece fabrics that I added to my cart. I didn't have a particular project in mind for the fabrics, but figured I could always make simple scarves if nothing else. (Simple is the key word here as I neither have a sewing machine nor know how to sew!)
Then it dawned on me that I should glance through the patterns to see if I could find out how much fabric I would need to make a scarf. I did not find a fleece scarf pattern per se, but while flipping through the pattern books I overhead a shopper ask an employee "Are all of your Simplicity patterns $1 each? All of them?" My ears perked up at that! So I pushed the McCalls, Burda, and Vogue pattern books to the side and started flipping through the Simplicity pattern book. I ended up with 6 patters (3 purse patterns, 2 baby gift patterns, and 1 window treatment). Hey, at $1 each, it won't be the end of the world if I don't use one or two of them....
Saturday I met with four of my Transylvania UniversityClass of 1990 classmates to work on planning our 20th reunion. We had fun reminiscing and thinking up ways to round up our classmates for the reunion and fun things to do at the reunion.
I'm thinking about scanning some old photos of fun college times and making photo cards to send to some of my pals. I love doing things like that. Now I just have to pick the photos and decide whether to send a holiday card, New Year's card, or just a Save the Date card....
I'm also putting together a Bingo style game that we can play at the reunion. I envision game cards with a grid of boxes. Each box would contain a college experience. We would draw the experiences at random and if the player has had that experience, the player will mark off that box. Whoever marks a line of boxes first will win some exotic prize - like a nice Transylvania license plate frame!
After the meeting we walked over to a cute restaurant named doodles.

doodlesis in an old gas station and is very reminiscent of a gas station, all the way down to the restrooms being on the outside of the building! It was a beautify, sunny, warm Fall day, so we ordered our food and found a table on the patio. I had a Kentucky Hot Brown strata and we shared an order of beignets. Yum, yum, yum! (Read more about doodles here.)
Sunday's creative activity was cooking. Well, sort of cooking. I mixed up an easy cheese dip to share with my neighbor who is stressed to the max. I thought she might enjoy something a little different to nosh on while she was studying. I can't believe I forgot to take photos! Must . Remember . Photos . . . .
Today I decided to take a ride on Louisville's public transit system, TARC. I have long thought that if you live in a community with public transportation, that you should know how to use it. When I "retired" from the law practice my colleagues gave me some bus tickets, a schedule, and a route map. So today I studied the pamphlets, visited the TARC website, mapped out my route, and rode the bus downtown to have lunch with my dear friend, Becky. Now that may not sound creative, but believe me - it was!
So here we are, all caught up! More to come tomorrow after the Calvary Episcopal Church Feed the Hungry, Heal the Heart art auction!
